Magnolia compressa
A very hardy member of the Michelia section, even surviving mega-winters in the UK if sited with shelter. A slow growing large shrub or small tree given many years, with small glossy leaves. The flowers are pale yellow to white with a red base at the bottom of each tepal and can be seen in quite some numbers over the evergreen foliage in spring.
