Azara petiolaris G&P 5026

A Chilean species and one of the hardiest, this forms a large evergreen shrub with comparatively large (but really not very big), leathery, toothed leaves, and a mass of deliciously vanilla scented, yellow flowers in late winter or early spring. The scent very similar to the better known A. microphylla. Best with some shelter from the coldest winter winds, but otherwise hardy for me for 30+ years.
