An easily grown, drought tolerant American hybrid between B. sphaerocarpa and B. alba. A lupin-like plant to approx' 1m high, making a mound of attractive, trifoliate, blue-green foliage, from which emerge 45cm long upright racemes of soft-yellow pea-flowers, paler in bud, May to July. A strong clump-forming perennial for most soils in full sun. Slow to establish initially, but then tough and long lived. Raised by Rob Gardner of the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
