Berberis insignis var. insignis

One of the very finest species, making a medium sized evergreen shrub 1.5 to 1.8m tall, distinct in its mainly spineless stems. The leaves are some of the largest found in Berberis species, looking more Mahonia-like, dark glossy-green, lanceolate to narrowly oval with short spiny teeth. Dense clusters of large pale yellow flowers in spring. Very rarely offered. Himalayan.
