A very richly coloured new form from wild Chinese seed, most desired by those that have seen it. The bark is dark purplish-red-brown, heavily banded with white lenticels and the papery peelings are semi-translucent burnt-orange. One of the fine newer generation of birch cultivars with exceptional bark colour. A medium sized tree for most soils. Plant a group of three, either in the same hole for a multistem effect, or with wider spacing, for ultimate bark experience.
