Blepharocalyx cruckshanksii

A Chilean myrtle relatively new to cultivation, forming an upright large shrub with glossy evergreen leaves, often folded somewhat, and orange-brown flaking bark. Masses of scented white flowers with conspicuous stamen in summer followed by red, turning black berries. Hardy to about -10c apparently, though reasonable shelter would be sensible; splendid specimens thrive in full sun in inland rural Sussex at Nymans garden.
