Carya laciniosa

The 'Big Shellbark Hickory' from the Eastern USA makes a medium sized tree here, bearing very big, pinnate leaves, sometimes as much as 75cm long, turning a good yellow in autumn. The grey bark becomes wonderfully shaggy in later life, with thick, jagged edged plates peeling off. Very hardy and easy in most soils.
