Magnolia ‘Shirazz’

Living up to a large percentage of its name, this is relatively new from New Zealand, raised from a cross between M. denudata and M. 'Vulcan'. A vigorous upright small tree to perhaps 8m, with initially tulip shaped, fruity scented flowers of a true burgundy-red that fade slightly to lilac purple at their edges and then open out wide on the bare branches in spring.
