Quercus lobata

The Valley oak of California makes a magnificently characterful large tree in the wild, with a crown similar in many ways to our finest Q. robur, but with variably splendidly deeply lobed and attractive foliage, downy beneath. A small to medium sized tree here in the UK, it will be ideally suited to the long dry summers and heat of a climate change future, though does very well in more temperate conditions also. Hardy, though very rarely offered or planted.

Pot size: 2L
