Quercus rugosa

An evergreen Mexican oak with hard, leathery foliage, sea-green above and glaucous on the underside, sometimes with shallow teeth, sometimes hooded. A medium sized oak in nature, this is much smaller in the UK, up to 7m so far. It has proven hardy in southern England over many years, given a reasonably sheltered site, though is rarely obtainable and rarely planted. Also known from SW USA and Central America.
