Rubus irenaeus

A rather bold looking low growing Chinese species, used wisely as a ground cover in shady areas. The broad rounded evergreen foliage with a subtle metallic lustre is beige felted beneath and sometimes over 15cm across on slender pale grey downy stems. White flowers in summer followed by large, edible, fairly sweet deep-red fruit. Hardy. Height generally about 50cm but can be taller if supported.
