Stachyurus chinensis ‘Celina’

A selected form of this exceptional deciduous large hardy Chinese shrub. Dark purple-brown branches are exquisitely strung along their bare lengths in early spring with rigidly pendulous racemes up to 13cm long, of small primrose-yellow flowers. Foliage is handsome in form with a long tapering tip and can turn to exceptional pink-red autumn shades if sited in full sun. Suited to any reasonably well drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Very hardy, but not happy in sites prone to regular late spring frosts.
