Tilia kiusiana

This rarity from Southern Japan is like no other Lime tree, and to be honest does not look like one, until you make a close inspection. Small and narrow pale-green leaves are miniature, being only 4 to 6cm long, on a slow growing small tree, suited to most soils and sites. A fine old specimen grows near here at Westonbirt arboretum but there are various others elsewhere in the UK, such as Thenford. Easy and hardy with fragrant white flowers in summer. Very distinct.
