Wisteria brachybotrys ‘Okayama’

A Japanese selection with particularly strongly fragrant dark mauvish-purple racemes in spring and deep-bronze emerging foliage colour. A vigorous climber bearing short-ish racemes of large individual flowers; the largest in the genus. Foliage and shoots conspicuously silky hairy, especially when young. Best in a sunny position in well drained soil, and trained to form a strong framework of flowering spurs.
