One of the finest woodies for autumn colour, this is a hybrid of the evergreen Chinese Sycopsis and the deciduous Parrotia persica, making a medium to large upright shrub with layered branching. In this exceptional deciduous clone the glossy foliage more resembles a slim leaved Parrotia and emerges purple tinted on new growth, hence the Jimi Hendrix reference. In autumn the leaves turn to an exceptional range of bright yellow, orange, scarlet and crimson, especially if grown in sun. Small late winter flowers are red and yellow. Tough and easy in most soils and sites.
