A charming small leaved species from Southern and Eastern Europe, East to the Caspian, and subsequently perfectly suited to dryer and warmer summers. A small to medium sized hardy tree of relatively dense habit when young, forming a rounded crown, turning bright acid-yellow with flower in April. The leaves are small, usually with only three lobes, often turning to rich shades of orange in autumn. A tough and easy tree, doing well across the British Isles; the best usually over 10m tall but reaching a maximum of 17m.
