Acer sinense

A rarity in cultivation, this fairly large leaved and particularly handsome Chinese species has proven itself hardy and easily growable in widely differing locations within the UK and elsewhere. Specimens at Westonbirt have shown themselves to be hardy to H5. A close relative of A. campbellii, this resembles that species in many ways, making a small deciduous tree to 5 or 6m tall with very attractive deeply lobed foliage that turns to shades of orange, yellow and red in autumn. For any reasonable soil in sun/semi-shade.
