A rarely but easily grown Chinese Horse Chestnut closely related to A. indica and once known as A. wilsonii. Long, slender candles of white flowers with red and yellow markings up to 40cm long in June, over very elegant foliage, which emerges with copper tints; in fact this whole group of Asian conkers have superb foliage in comparison to the common species, which is coarse in comparison, and do not suffer from the leaf miner. Makes a small to medium sized tree, easily grown in any ordinary soil. Very different from the common conker and deserving of much wider planting.
