Aralia bipinnata

Tried and tested here and very hardy, even through extreme cold. From Taiwan, at altitude, this makes a fine upright large shrub to about 3m, with formidably armed stems and huge bipinnate foliage composed of masses of small leaflets. Large upright branched heads of white flower top the plants in autumn, followed by myriad black berries. Sun or semi-shade and suited to most soils and sites.
