The Carolina Allspice forms a dense, bushy, medium sized deciduous hardy shrub with a multitude of small deep-maroon flowers borne over a long period in summer over glossy, rich-green, aromatic leaves. For any reasonable soil in sun or semi-shade, apparently even tolerant of rather wet soils. To about 2m tall.
