Carpinus tropicalis subsp. mexicana

Collected originally in the mountains of NE Mexico by the late John Fairey this is a southerly relation of the N. American C. caroliniana, though gathered at its most northerly limit. A small to medium sized tree which has been a great success in inland Kent for many years. Similar in many ways to our native species but with potentially richer autumn colour, sometimes red-orange.
