Carpinus tropicalis subsp. mexicana

Collected originally in the mountains of NE Mexico by the late John Fairey this is a southerly relation of the N. American C. caroliniana, though gathered at its most northerly limit. A small to medium sized tree which has been a great success at White House Farm in inland Kent for many decades. New growth is deep-red tinted and potentially good autumn colour, sometimes red-orange.
