Closely related to the Camphor tree, this completely hardy (USDA Zone 7) species from China is virtually unknown in cultivation in the UK and should be tried everywhere. An evergreen medium to large sized tree in the wild though most likely a small tree in the UK with cooler summers, this has formed a very attractive upright, densely bushy specimen in the Eastern USA. Handsome, prominently three-veined, rich-green foliage with a subtle sheen, glaucous beneath and emerging pale yellow-green on new growth. For any reasonable soil in sun.
