Cornus ‘Norman Hadden’

A beautiful, graceful, spreading small tree with nearly evergreen foliage, depending on winter cold. Small true flowers surrounded by large, conspicuous, cream bracts smother the branches in June, turning pink in July. Large crops of pendulous, strawberry like fruit in late-summer/autumn. A hybrid of C. kousa and C. capitata, raised in Porlock, Somerset. Suited to most soils, even alkaline, though the thinnest chalk is usually a step too far. The cultivars 'Norman Hadden' and 'Porlock' are completely confused in cultivation and are virtually identical anyway.
