From the mountains of Taiwan this prostrate, creeping, hummock-forming semi-evergreen species inhabits sunny, rocky grasslands, cliffs etc. at high altitudes. A hardy species in cultivation and a useful groundcover on slopes, raised beds, wall edges, etc etc, this bears white flowers in spring and a mass of glossy bright-red fruits in autumn. Rarely encountered in the UK.
