Crinodendron patagua

A strong growing large evergreen shrub or small tree from Chile, for a sheltered summer-warm position, usually best against a sunny south or west wall, except in the mildest areas. Sweetly scented white flowers are produced in late summer; the latter being different to C. hookerianum in their more bell-shaped appearance. Hailing from summer-dry parts of Chile, it is drought tolerant and varies in hardiness between clones, the toughest taking below -10c without damage. Good plants have been seen to thrive as far north as Edinburgh, given a good microclimate. Lime free soil.
