Daphniphyllum calycinum

A great rarity from SE China and N Vietnam, making an evergreen medium to large shrub with handsome foliage, well held (like all Daphniphyllum). The leaves are pale beneath and the male and female flowers are found on separate plants, with the males making rather attractive densely packed clusters of pale pink anthers between the foliage at the tips of the shoots. Female bear distinctive small round and particularly glaucous fruit. Probably best suited to milder areas of the UK though maybe hardier than I presume. For most soils in sun or semi-shade.
