Dolichandra cynanchoides RCB RA-Q-4

From Cordoba Province, N. Argentina, a S. American climbing member of the Bignonia family with clusters of unusually shaped tubular flowers in summer. Starting soft-yellow and turning deep, dusky-pinkish-orange with their mouths splaying open, they sit within very obvious large deep-dusky-pink calyces. The slim evergreen foliage is glaucous-green with paler veins. Makes a potentially large climber but can easily be kept to about 2m with annual pruning. Rated as H4 for hardiness, this has been seen to survive at least -9c in the UK, though a sheltered position is advisable.
