Eriobotrya longifolia

An extreme rarity, previously only known from the type locality in the Mishmi Hills of NE India, but now also from the remote border of Manipur and Myanmar, further to the South, where we found this in 2012 on the mountain Khayangphung. A small evergreen tree related to the Loquat, but with smaller lightly toothed leaves that emerge richly red-tinted and turn to an almost matt green, with only a subtle sheen. Conical heads of richly scented white flowers in spring, followed by rounded fruit in summer. Exact hardiness unknown, but definitely not very tender.
