Helianthus ‘Monarch’

Often wrongly named, this is the real deal and truly one of the finest in the genus, making robust clumps with strong upright stems to 2.5m tall; topped in late summer/early autumn by large semi-double deep yellow flowers to 15cm across; each with a dark golden-brown centre. The foliage is up to 30cm long. A big perennial for striking effect, this is a non-invasive clumper. For sun or semi-shade in any reasonable soil. Very hardy.
