Helianthus salicifolius

The Afghan Hound of the plant world and grown mainly for its truly marvellous foliage, with incredibly elegant hanging curtains of long very narrow green leaves. Shoots reach 2.5m tall and end in clusters of bright yellow, very dark centred and deliciously scented starry flowers in October. Stems are apt to relax somewhat half way through the season unless staked, but I rather enjoy the spectacle and ease of flower sniffing at a lower level. Hardy and easy.
