Masses of vibrant, deep red-pink flowers are seen late summer and stems show light grey and tan patchwork bark. A hybrid of L. indica and L. fauriei raised in the USA, this, despite popular belief, flowers regularly in the UK. Plants at Kew have been covered in flower in late summer for many years, including poor cool summers and with the cool July and August of summer 2023 a client in Shropshire easily flowered a plant from here in early September showing this and other clones are plants of the future for the UK. A large hardy shrub, or much smaller if pruned hard.
