Liquidambar formosana Monticola Group

Considerably less known in UK cultivation than its American cousin, this hardy montane Chinese species bears large usually three lobed matt foliage that emerges maroon tinted and can potentially turn to vivid red in autumn. A medium sized tree for any reasonable soil, but the most vivid autumn colours are to found on acid soil.
