Magnolia ‘Athene’

One from the Jury stable in New Zealand, this makes a vigorous small to medium sized tree with large M. campbellii-like flowers with thick tepals, white with a pink stain at the base, seen on the bare branches in spring. Still one of the most beautiful of all Magnolia, after all these years and multiple new introductions. For good soil, even alkaline if rich and deep, in sun or semi-shade.
