Considered by Roy Lancaster as one of the finest species in cultivation (and I wholeheartedly agree), this has only relatively recently been introduced from Sichuan, China. Originally identified by Ogisu as M. huiliensis, this is not that species and most likely represents an undescribed entity. Highly attractive large pinnate foliage to over 50cm long, composed of well spaced and well armed slender leaflets. As if the superb foliage wasn't enough, stems are topped in autumn by 26cm long racemes of densely set rich yellow flowers. Makes a large shrub to about 3m tall.
