Nothofagus dombeyi

One of my favourite of all large trees, this particularly elegant small leaved evergreen comes from the temperate forests of S Chile where it grows into extremely handsome flat topped, almost cedar like specimens with cherry-like bark when young. In the UK it is a fast growing tree with all parts quietly attractive, and simply beautiful as a whole. For any reasonable soil, including alkaline as here in the Severn Valley, this is more drought tolerant than many other Nothofagus due to its wild range extending northward into the the mediterranean climate zone of C Chile.
