This very hardy Chinese shrubby species makes a suckering clump to 1.2m high, with highly attractive very deeply dissected narrowly lobed grey-green foliage on red tinted petioles. Red flowers with a large boss of yellow stamen are borne in early May and are up to 8cm across in this form. For a sunny site in any reasonably drained soil. Originally received as P. potaninii, this most certainly has straight P. delavayi genes in the mix, as it is too tall and robust for a Potaninii, though still retains the handsomely dissected foliage.
