Pilea plataniflora ‘Glossy’ PB 09-1235

An evergreen non-stinging Asian member of the stinging nettle family, primarily grown for foliage effect in shade. A Patrick Blanc collection from the forests of Taiwan, this makes bushy plants to about 50cm tall, bearing purple stalked glossy elliptic foliage, each clearly marked with three deeply impressed veins, much like a Cinnamomum. In most areas this will be deciduous in the garden and die back each year, where it should be hardy with a winter mulch. In mild areas it will be easy. Humusy soil and shade, not too dry.
