The 'Chinese Pistachio' is very rarely encountered in the UK, but makes a hardy deciduous small tree (or large shrub sometimes) with pretty, neat, glossy, pinnate foliage that emerges red tinted in spring and turns to excellent, vivid-red or orange autumnal shades, especially when grown in a hot sunny position. A large tree in Central China though much, much smaller here. Highly tolerant of heat and drought and much used in the extremely summer dry SW USA for example, this needs to be planted here more often, considering our warming climate. Any reasonably drained soil.
