Polystichum munitum

The Western sword fern is one of the most memorable aspects of the forest understory of the Western USA, where it makes magnificent crowns of handsome pinnate fronds, often about 1m long, though sometimes much longer, usually under giant conifers and Big leaf maples etc. A noble, hardy species for humus rich soil in shade.
