Rarely obtainable, like so many interesting and ornamental poplars, this makes a vigorous healthy large tree here, with impressive colourful leaves up to 17cm long; lanceolate with a heart-shaped base, scarlet petioles and midribs, and with pale undersides. The bark is pale-grey when young, adding another ornamental feature. For exotic effect, or just smaller gardens, this could easily be kept coppiced every winter, resulting in very strong growth each year with oversized colourful leaves and 'tropical' exuberance. Originally from 2600m in the Eastern Himalaya.
