Quercus canariensis

An arresting species, with big, shallowly lobed, thick textured, dark, semi-evergreen leaves, pale glaucous on the underside. This makes a large, imposing tree eventually, with an upright but full, broadly rounded crown, and impressive deeply fissured bark. Not from the Canaries at all, but hailing from S. Spain, S. Portugal and N. Africa. Easy on most soils and fully hardy, this is perfectly suited to a warming and drying UK climate and should be widely planted. This batch is derived from Moroccan stock.
