Endangered in the wild and a great rarity in cultivation, this very hardy deciduous species is endemic to mountains in a small area of the Levant, in Israel, Lebanon and Syria, where it often grows in association with Cedrus libani. Closely related to Q. cerris, though much slower growing, and making a small or possibly medium sized tree at best. Heat and fairly drought tolerant.
