This Far Eastern evergreen oak is one of the hardiest members of the Cyclobalanopsis section (Ring cup oaks) and makes a medium sized tree in the UK, up to 18m tall at full maturity, after many decades in a good site. The crown is full, dense and rounded and the foliage is slim and willowy, dark green above and slightly grey-green beneath, emerging richly red tinted. A lover of heat, though not a prerequisite for good growth, and remarkably drought tolerant considering its origin, making it well suited to a warming and drying UK climate. For neutral to acid soil.
