Very rarely seen in cultivation, this relatively small growing evergreen oak from the mountains of S. Mexico and beyond makes a small to medium tree in the wild, with classically 'oak' shaped foliage (think robur on steroids), leathery and softly hairy on the underside. Probably suited to milder counties in the UK, but who's tried it? Many Mexican oaks are fully hardy in the UK...
