Rhododendron wallichii ex AP

A rarely offered species from the Himalaya, closely related to R. campanulatum, making a compact evergreen shrub of medium to large size with dense heads of pale-lilac flowers with rose spots internally borne March-May. Foliage is 5 to 10cm long, deep-green above with a thin pale brown indumentum under. Acid soil in sun or semi-shade. Very hardy.
