Ribes speciosum
This Californian species has its branches strung with dangling clusters of extremely slim and particularly beautiful, Fuchsia-like, rich-red flowers in April and May, making it the most ornamental of the 'gooseberries'. Makes a medium sized semi-evergreen shrub with shiny leaves and reddish-bristly stems and fruits. Hardy, though in very cold areas give it a sunny wall.
