Formerly T. ascendens, this is closely related to the Swamp Cypress, but slower growing and forms a smaller tree with a narrowly conical or columnar habit to a maximum of about 20m at full maturity in Southern UK. Immature foliage is ferny, soon changing to distinctly appressed on vertical deciduous branchlets which become drooping, turning rich red-brown in autumn and lasting into winter. For standing water, marshy or even dry sites and extremely heat tolerant; good for a warming UK climate. It doesn't require heat though and grows perfectly well in Scotland for eg.
