Wisteria brachybotrys ‘Okayama’

A Japanese selection with particularly strongly fragrant dark mauvish-purple racemes in spring and deep-bronze emerging foliage colour. A vigorous climber bearing short-ish racemes of individually large flowers; the largest in the genus in fact. Foliage and shoots conspicuously silky hairy, especially when young and emerging in spring strongly bronze tinted, which sets of the flowers particularly well. Best in a sunny position in well drained soil, and trained to form a strong framework of flowering spurs.
