Erythrina x bidwillii

This is a cross between the Brazilian woody E. crista-galli and the hardy N. American herbaceous E. herbacea. A spectacular perennial if planted in a sheltered warm position outside, mulched over in winter. The blindingly red flower heads are spectacular in late summer, made up of tubular, atypical pea flowers.
